Green Growth Terms – Great Streets
2009 September 25
WHAT IS IT? The key characteristics include
- being representative of their places,
- allowing a comfortable and safe walkable environment,
- contributing to economic vitality,
- being functionally complete (providing mobility for all modes), and
- facilitating placemaking and being green.
Great streets can potentially exist anywhere – downtowns, residential neighborhoods, employment centers and so forth.
The East West Gateway Council of Governments developed a primer and tool kit for developing and evaluating great streets. The site includes a document library and a design tutorial.
