2009 September 25
WHAT IS IT? Vehicle miles of travel (or VMT) is the measure of the sum total of all vehicle travel in miles over a transportation system and is used to compare the efficiency of alternative transportation networks. VMT is often used to assess the level of traffic congestion over a set period of time VMT per day or VMT per year. VMT is often used as a surrogate for air quality however changes in fuel economy (miles per gallon) has reduced over all emissions.
