Jennifer Dill at PSU has fome fresh data on Portland cycling in 2008/2009. does anyone know if it is on the web?
Along with building infrastrure, i’m convinced that social networking has a lot to do with increasing bike use in Portland’s neighborhoods. We hear about it, talk about it, and see it, so we join in. does anyhone ahve stories of how they started cycling?

When discussing selecting participants for the research project, she comments on the role of the strong online biking community in Portland. The insights she draws from a such a dense set of travel data are very interesting.

Thanks for the comments! I agree – Portland has a great online bike presence. Plus a very strong in-person community, which is supported by hundreds of great events like the “Worst Day of the Year Ride” and more regular “breakfast on the bridge” events – coffee and donuts always get people excited.

The Bike Transportation Alliance has a great blog for this type of information and really helps reinforce the online community – http://www.bta4bikes.org/btablog/.
