New Portland magazine launches for a “low car lifestyle”
I’ll admit it, I’ve never owned a car.
That is saying something for a person living in the US, but since I’ve lived in Portland most of my life transit has been a pretty easy and reliable option. I’m excited to see that others are just as interested as I am in maintaining a no or low car lifestyle (yes, we do rely on Zipcar for transporting furniture). A newly launched magazine for such a person as myself, is now available for Portlanders – Portland Afoot!
The good news is that the magazine isn’t just for die-hards like myself, but also people interested in reducing their dependence on their car (maybe even transitioning to a one-car family).
And don’t worry Cascadia, there are out of town subscription rates available!

I just got my first copy, and it’s a gem. Things like this just might save print journalism.
Hey, Brandy! Thanks so much for the kind words and the enthusiasm. It really means a lot to a new operation.
Not to mention: your analysis is spot on. We’re trying to be useful and entertaining both to car-free kooksters like you and me and to the growing number of families who are making that leap to one-car households with the help of transit, bike and Zipcar.
That’s why the magazine is so short (four pages!): people’s time is more valuable now than ever, so we think the way to build that community is to deliver the goods in just 10 minutes a month.
Also, I’ve totally subscribed to your feed. See you on the Internets, if I don’t see you around town!
Hi Michael. Glad you found us and I’m excited to read the new mag! Keep up the good work.
