Your Daily Zen
Going through my photos today, I came across this picture of the US 101 Bridge I took last summer in Astoria, Oregon. I was in town for a dinner event for the National Rural Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Conference, hosted by ITS Oregon and ITS America. It was a technical junkie’s dream come true (read: I had a total blast!). Tons of technical discussion on how ITS can improve the transportation network around us. But alas, that’s for another post.
I saw this bridge while waiting for dinner to start, and just had to take a picture of it. I’m reminded of a discussion my Theory of Knowledge class had my senior year of high school, where we had a passionate debate about what makes something ‘art’.
Can it still be considered art if it has a utilitarian purpose, as oppose to something like a painting, which we all enjoy looking at…but what do you actually DO with it? And my answer, obviously, is yes. Something like a bridge, which connects cities, can be art.
Looking at this picture always feels like taking a fresh breath of air to me. Hopefully it does the same for you. Enjoy =)

Cool pic. The lighting makes the bridge look like its floating in air.
