Plug-In 2010 brings forward Coulomb home charging station and fancy Blink charger
Last week’s Plug-In 2010 conference in San Jose (the self-purported conference for cutting edge, current and future plug-in hybrid and electric transportation technologies) has brought out two new electric vehicle charging stations of note: Blink by ECOtality and Frog Design, and CT500 by Coulomb Technologies.
The Blink EV chargers have been developed to be eye-catching and in hopes of being a “new icon for a smart EV ecosystem.” These chargers are developed to look and fit nice inside any residential garage, cluttered with the normal bats and hats. The claim is a full charge in two to six hours, which we have to admit is pretty good. So I suppose its practicalities (and not just its looks) is what got it a $230 million public-private fund to install around 15,000 charges in 16 U.S. cities.
The Coulomb CT500 holds its own – what else can you expect from a company that is already making sweeps nation-wide to install its ChargePoint stations. The CT500 is meant also to be for residential use that packs a whopping 7.2 kw punch. Still no word on how much it costs though…we imagine not more than the car you plan on plugging in.
